ArmInfo. The Special Investigation Service (SIS) sent a petition to the court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan to extend the term of the arrest of second president Robert Kocharyan for two months. Press secretary of the Special Investigation Service Marina Ohanjanyan said this in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent.
To note, Kocharyan's defense sent a petition to the SIS to stop criminal prosecution against their client. They noted that the criminal prosecution should be stopped, since in respect of the second president it cannot be applied to become 300.1 of the RA Criminal Code.
To recall, on January 10, the judge on the case of changing the measure of restraint regarding Kocharyan took a rejection, and the meeting was postponed indefinitely. Robert Kocharyan is charged under Art. 300.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia in overthrowing the constitutional system in the framework of the criminal case on the dispersal of protest actions on March 1, 2008. On December 7, the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the first instance for the arrest of the 2nd President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan. Without waiting for the transfer of the verdict to the investigator, Robert Kocharyan himself appeared in the "Yerevan Kentron" penitentiary unit, where he was later arrested. The office of the second president of Armenia called the arrest a political vendetta. The RPA, however, qualified this as pre-election pressure from the current government on political opponents.
