ArmInfo. The Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia should not be closed. This is stated in the open letter of about thirty winemakers of Armenia addressed to acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the decision to close the structure in the framework of the optimization program.
The letter, in particular, states: "In recent years, winemaking in Armenia has been reviving, it is recognized as one of the priorities of the economy. All new international investors are interested in the area. Wine consumption has become an integral part of our life, more and more tourists come to our country for wine tours. These successes are largely due to the assistance of the state and the new programs implemented by the Vine and Wine Foundation. For industry professionals, the Foundation has become an important link between a private trader and the state. The Foundation regularly holds meetings with winemakers and researchers, provides us with reports on the programs implemented, and plans new ones on the basis of discussions with us. As a result, Armenian wines win prizes in various international competitions, and exports are constantly growing. Among the effectively started programs are the vineyard register, the introduction of production of wines with geographical indication, the search and testing of old local grape varieties, the study of vacant lands that are promising for viticulture.
Perhaps in a few years we will be able to switch to self-regulation, but so far we have not reached a new stage of development. Therefore, please refrain from closing such an efficient structure. We are ready to hold more detailed discussions about this, "the letter reads.
