ArmInfo. The statements of the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov regarding the delivery of the territories controlled by the Armenian side in 2019 indicate that Baku is not ready for progress in the negotiation process. Press Secretary of the Artsakh President David Babayan stated this in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent.
"Mamedyarov's statement can only be regarded as another manifestation of the destructive position," Babayan said, considering the words of Mamedyarov about the readiness to provide Artsakh with wide autonomy and ensure its security, illogical. "Artsakh does not need autonomy, it has long since decided on itself on the basis of a popular referendum. It is noteworthy that, in parallel with these statements, Baku continues to come up with militaristic threats. Instead of appealing to unrealistic dreams regarding the surrender of the territories and autonomy of Artsakh, the authorities of Azerbaijan should change the rhetoric and approaches and begin direct negotiations with official Stepanakert. This would be a big step towards substantive negotiations, as Mammadyarov likes to express", said David Babayan, saying that the true intentions of Azerbaijan have not changed. Taking this into account, he stressed, the Armenian side should always be on the alert: "Only the consolidated efforts of Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora will give their results". It should be noted that in his interview, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ar Elmar Mamedyarov, in particular, stated about the "readiness" of Baku to provide a high degree of autonomy to Artsakh and ensure its security. He also expressed the hope that in 2019 the question of the transfer of territories under the control of the Armenian side would be resolved.
