ArmInfo. The introduction of a new transport network will take at least two years, Mayor of the capital Hayk Marutyan stated in an interview with journalists after the meeting of the Council of Elders of Yerevan on December 21.
"Whether we like it or not, we inherited such a system of urban transport. Moreover, we received not just a bad transport system, but a destroyed network, "Marutyan said.
Further, the mayor stressed that the mayor's office turned to the British consulting company with questions, the answers to which will be received only in February.
After that, it will be necessary to involve another company in order to turn the theoretical part into a practical one, after that the implementation of the program will only begin. "It is not ruled out that we will be dissatisfied with it, because the British take into account the figures of passenger transportation in 2014, when the last mayor sent an order to this company to carry out research on improving public transport in Yerevan. 4 years have passed since then, it is necessary to understand whether this number coincides with the current or not. Now they do not answer this question, they say, a more extensive study is needed", the Mayor said.
To recall, the British company had been allocated 850 thousand euros to work on improving the public transport sector in Armenia.
Regarding the issue of garbage collection, Marutyan said that Sanitek simply does not have time to cope with the work. He also blamed the previous authorities for this, who left such an important and large-scale work for one operator. "Sanitek doesn't have enough cars, but we instructed them to work in shifts, create additional brigades. But there is still the need to attract the second operator. "Sanitek" has already realized this and agreed. Now work is underway in this direction, " Marutyan said.
