ArmInfo. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a working meeting with State Secretary of the Security Council Stanislav Zas today, BelTA reports.
Stanislav Zas informed about his meetings with heads of state members of the CSTO, who were to agree on his candidacy for the post of the Secretary General of the organization This form of appointment was proposed by Alexander Lukashenko at the November meeting of the presidents in St. Petersburg. The State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus has already visited Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Russia. The heads of these states approved the Belarusian candidature.
Alexander Lukashenko also officially supported the appointment of Stanislav Zas, having signed the corresponding draft decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council. "I said earlier that there was more than one candidate from Belarus. But I stopped at Zas's proposal to show, if I may say so, an example, that it's time for us in this organization to move on from some formal appointment of former, retired generals (I don't want to say anything bad about them) to the current young and promising generals, in order to attach importance to this organization, especially since we appointed retired generals who had long since moved away from military service, from politics, but still it's a military-political ", - the head of state explained his own decision.
Lukashenko expressed the hope that other CSTO members will adhere to such practices in the future when appointing their representatives to the post of secretary general. "And, of course, this meets our criteria for the preparation and appointment of personnel: professionalism and love for the work in which you will be engaged," Alexander Lukashenko added.
The head of state discussed with the State Secretary of the Security Council questions of the functioning of the CSTO and the problems of regional security. "Some targets and tasks were expressed. This is including more practical implementation of the issues facing this organization. In recent years, much has been done in terms of creating a regulatory framework, this is very important. But time requires specific practical steps to strengthen our common security, "- told about the details of the meeting with President Stanislav Zas. In addition, Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the implementation of the agreements reached in November at the organization's summit in Astana. In particular, the parties then approved the provisions on the legal registration of the status of an observer and partner of the CSTO - at one time this issue was raised by Belarus. "We need to build a neighborhood belt in the organization. This is also one of the upcoming tasks for today," the Security Council Secretary of State added. It was also about strengthening common borders in the CSTO, primarily in Central Asia. A number of other activities were also discussed.
