ArmInfo.Sergey Lavrov in Baku once again confirmed that the position of Russia on the settlement of the Karabakh issue is unchanged, said Russia's Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin at a press conference on December 18. The diplomat noted that Russia intends to continue working in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group, and believes that the Karabakh issue can be resolved exclusively by peaceful means, based on the consent of the two parties.
The Ambassador also stressed that Russia is working to form the possibility of a direct dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan: "one of the areas of Russia's work in this matter is to create an opportunity for establishing a dialogue between the parties."
To note, on December 14 in Baku, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that he felt the sincere mood of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to resume negotiations on the Karabakh conflict with Armenia. "Yesterday we had a very detailed, long conversation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Heydarovich Aliyev. We felt his sincere intention to resume negotiations, to look for constructive solutions," Lavrov told reporters. "We, as a country that is a close partner of both Azerbaijan and Armenia, and as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, will do everything to create the necessary conditions for reaching a compromise," Lavrov said.
