ArmInfo. All are equal before the law. On December 9, after fulfilling his civic duty at the polling station, Chief of the RA Police Valeriy Osipyan told journalists commenting on the arrest of the second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan.
According to the head of the RA Police, the justice in the country is implemented by the judicial system, and it is this system that should decide whether Robert Kocharyan is guilty or not.
Responding to a question about the statement of the Republican Party, which believes that the arrest of the second president is aimed at putting pressure on political opponents, Valery Osipyan stressed that equal conditions were created for all participants in the electoral process, and in this context RPA's concern is not clear.
To note, the RPA in its statement declared that the authorities initiated the arrest of Robert Kocharyan in order to put pressure on political opponents before the elections, thereby spreading the atmosphere of fear in the country. The RPA believes that Kocharyan's arrest is motivated by personal revenge, is a political order and is lawless. The RPA believes that the Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan rudely violates the norms of democracy by giving direct instructions to the judiciary, as evidenced by the well-known record of a telephone conversation between the Acting Prime Minister and head of the National Security Service.
In this regard, the RPA focuses the attention of international structures, observers, human rights organizations on the current situation, since, according to the party, it is pointless to turn to local authorities and organizations.
To recall, on December 7, the Court of Appeal of Armenia decided to arrest the second President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, on charges of overthrowing the constitutional order in the framework of the March 1, 2008 case.
