According to preliminary data from the investigation, the plane crashed on December 4 at around 10.20 local time in the neighborhood of the Karaberd settlement of the Maralik region. As a result of the accident, the pilot of the first class, Lieutenant Colonel Armen Slavikovich Babayan and the pilot of the 3rd class, Major Movses Gevorkovich Manukyan were killed.The criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 378 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (violation of flight rules or preparation for them, which resulted in the death of two or more people by negligence).

The Su-25, performing a combat flight training, disappeared on the morning of December 4th. In the afternoon, the plane was found in the mountains near the town of Maralik, Shirak region.
