ArmInfo. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is grateful to Belarus for the position on the settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. As BelTA reports, Aliyev told reporters today after talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk.
"I would like to express my gratitude from myself and the Azerbaijani people for the position of Belarus on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We are grateful to Belarus for such an objective position on an issue that is extremely important both for us and for the entire region," the Azerbaijani leader said.
The presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan reflected their position in a joint statement signed after the talks. The document says that "the parties, referring to the efforts continuing within the OSCE, as well as the activities of the Minsk Group aimed at the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, emphasize the need to intensify further steps in this direction."
Ilham Aliyev and Alexander Lukashenko in a joint statement also stressed the importance of an early peaceful settlement of the conflict in accordance with generally accepted principles and norms of international law, first of all, the sovereign equality of states, inviolability of borders, territorial integrity, as well as relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and OSCE decisions.
