ArmInfo. After long discussions, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and IT has found a solution to the problem related to the legislative ban on the importation of right-hand drive cars into Armenia from October 1, 2018. Acting Minister Arshakyan told journalists about this on November 8 in an interview with journalists.
According to the Acting Minister, the importers of the "right-hand drive cars" were offered three solutions to the problem: import the car not as a vehicle (for example, for spare parts), the car is imported in transit and then sold abroad, and the third option is for the importer to import the car and its temporary (1 year) operation with the requirement of alteration from the right wheel to the left. At the same time, as Arshakyan explained, a proposal on the third option will be sent to the government, which allows, besides the main problem, to resolve a number of others. "There are reports of a rise in prices for car rearrangement t in Georgia, and we provide an opportunity to carry out these works in the country, thereby providing an additional opportunity for the Armenian masters to earn," the acting minister said.
To recall, from April 1, 2018, the former government banned the import of right-hand drive vehicles in Armenia. Already on October 1, the ban will operate within the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union. To note, experts call slyness that the ban on the import of cheap right-hand drive cars is associated with the need to ensure safety on the roads. According to the data of the RA Traffic Police, in 2017, 2,553 traffic accidents were registered in Armenia, of which 253 accidents occurred with the participation of right-hand drive vehicles, which is only 10% of the total number of road violations. They believe that the decision was made in order to stimulate demand for cars produced in the EEU countries.
