The legendary weightlifter Yuri Vardanyan died

According to the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Armenia, the  cause of death is not yet known.  However, it is known that Vardanyan  has had health problems for a long time, which is why he was forced  to resign from the post of RA Ambassador to Georgia. Yuri Vardanyan  was born in 1956 in the Armenian city of Leninakan. His name is  inscribed in gold letters in the history of world weightlifting.  Vardanyan was a four-time champion of the USSR (1977, 1979, 1981,  1982), a five-time champion of Europe (1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1983),  a seven-time world champion (1977-1981, 1983, 1985), a champion of  the Olympic Games (1980), 43-times world record holder, Honored  Master of Sports of the USSR (1977). In 1994, the name of Yuri  Vardanyan was included in the Weightlifting Hall of Fame.
