Toghanyan: Sooner or later Turkey will understand that good  neighborliness and good relations with Armenia of first water in its  interests 

ArmInfo.Armenia hoped that the Armenian-Turkish border, the last closed border in  Europe after the Berlin Wall, would be opened without any  prerequisites.  Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toghanyan,  speaking on the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, said  this on the air of "Echo Moscow".

In this context, he recalled that in 2009 the Zurich Protocols were  signed, implying the normalization of relations between Yerevan and  Ankara without preconditions, but the document was never ratified and  denounced by Armenia. "The question is that Turkey connects the  opening of the border with the settlement of the Karabakh conflict,  believing that only after the settlement of this conflict can this  border be opened.  But we believe that this is a policy of diplomatic  pressure, these two issues are in no way connected, because it  changes the architecture the whole region ", said the ambassador.

At the same time, Toghanyan expressed the conviction that sooner or  later in Turkey they will understand that good neighborliness and  good relations with Armenia are solely in its interests. "It's  inexpedient to link this with the historical context and the  settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Here the ball is still on the  Turkish side. Turkey has closed the borders. And we believe that  Turkey will ultimately be ready for constructive dialogue," the  ambassador said.  Answering the question of what position Georgia  occupies in this matter, Toghanyan stated that Tbilisi is a strategic  partner, the main neighbor of Yerevan. "Georgia has always had a  constructive contribution in general, in the region, contributed as  much as she could resolving issues. And we, of course, understand  that, in general, the opening of borders, and the establishment of  relations in the region is also in the interests of Tbilisi, "the  Armenian Ambassador said.
