ArmInfo.President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting with his Armenian counterpart Armen Sarkissian confirmed the friendly and partnership nature of the Belarusian-Armenian relations.
As the press service of the President of Belarus told ArmInfo, Lukashenko noted that, despite all sorts of arguments in a democratic Armenia, she always had and will have a good and reliable friend in Belarus. "We are working in a single economic space - our Eurasian Union, in the military-political union of the CSTO. And no matter what they say or write, we faithfully fulfill our agreements. Everything that is laid within the framework of these organizations", Belarusian leader said.
He noted that Belarus is hosting a large international forum these days - a meeting of the Main Group of the Munich Security Conference. "The issue is very important and serious. And your arrival in Minsk, participation in the meetings of this group on this topic indicates that Armenia is not just worried about this problem. This is a burning problem for the Armenian people," said the President of Belarus.
As for trade and economic cooperation, the head of the Belarusian state called it the basis of bilateral relations with Armenia. "The trade is growing. We have overcome a recession. Last year, more than 30% growth. That's about $ 45 million. If we compare it with the fact that there was nothing at all a few years ago, this is a result. But if we talk about our potential, then Of course, this is not a commodity turnover. We could easily have $ 150 million turnover today, and this would significantly raise our relations to a higher level. You know our capabilities and we know yours. Therefore, we will consider in short terms any proposals that Armenia will put forward and we will make an appropriate decision ", - the head of Belarus noted.
He added that Armenia is currently undergoing another difficult democratic change: "There's no way out of it. And, of course, it's very important for me to get information from the mouth of my friend and colleague."
The President thanked his colleague for the support of a group of Belarusian journalists who were once sent to Armenia for objective coverage of the events taking place there. "We want to know what is happening in our friendly Armenia. I am very grateful to you for this. You even gave an interview to our journalists. It was very widely distributed in Belarus and not only. We understood what is happening in Armenia. And this is very important for our Therefore, we see in your person that person who is objective and ready to maintain relations with Belarus. We will reciprocate ", Lukashenko concluded.
