


ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian sent a congratulatory message to the leader of Ireland Michael Higgins in connection with his re-election. As the President's press service told ArmInfo Sarkissian was convinced that Higgins's ambitious projects and activity would contribute to the development and prosperity of Ireland.
"Armenia is ready to develop relations with Ireland both in bilateral and multilateral formats," the Armenian President said On October 27, current President of Ireland, Michael Higgins won the regular election and retained his position. Higgins scored 56% of the vote. Entrepreneur Peter Casey was in second place. The remaining four candidates did not surpass the 10% mark. Also in the elections on Saturday, the Irish people voted to exclude from the constitution a sentence for blasphemy. 64.85% of voters voted for. Most of the Irish did not know about the existence of such a law before the speech of the actor and writer Stephen Fry on RTE.
The last time in Ireland was punished for blasphemy in 1855. Then the British crown ruled the country. The results were confirmed in Dublin Castle on Saturday evening (on Sunday night, Moscow time).
