Ministry of Transport: The law prohibits the importation of  right-hand drive cars to Armenia as vehicles:  however, it can be  imported as spare parts

The head of the Ministry of Transport, during a  conversation with importers of cars, he unequivocally said that the  adoption of this law was the result of extensive discussions, in  which activists of the Right Handlebar initiative also took part.  Arshakyan recalled that at one time he was a participant in active  debates around the bill, especially in the part that said that the  owners of the "right-handed" vehicles do not have the right to  alienate the vehicle.  And about. the minister found it difficult to  answer the question of what should be done for those importers whose  cars are currently idle at the border. , - explained Arshakyan.  He once again reminded that  the movement in Armenia has been adjusted and designed for vehicles  with left-hand drive. At the same time, Arshakyan opposes the idea of  giving time to the owners of right-hand drive cars in order to  replace the steering wheel location, since there are no control  mechanisms for how exactly this will be done - by a private master or  by a licensed organization that will be responsible for possible  negative effects.  Recall that from April 1, 2018 the import of  right-hand drive vehicles into Armenia is prohibited. Already on  October 1, the ban will operate within the requirements of the  technical regulations of the Customs Union. Initially, under public  pressure, it was planned to ban the import of right-hand drive cars  temporarily. But later the government removed the word "provisional"  from the draft law, and the Armenian parliament on March 1, 2018  approved the document in the second and final reading.  Note that  experts call slyness that the ban on the import of right-hand drive  cars is associated with the need to ensure safety on the roads.  According to the data of the RA Traffic Police, in 2017, 2,553  traffic accidents were registered in Armenia, of which 253 accidents  occurred with the participation of right-hand drive vehicles, which  is only 10% of the total number of road violations.
