ArmInfo. Suren Hovsepyan became the Permanent Representative of Armenia in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The decision was made at the October 18 sitting of the RA government.
According to the certificate of the executive body, on the basis of the organization's charter, only the person who heads the meteorological service of the state can be a permanent representative in WMO. Therefore, it was proposed to designate the head of the Armenian State Service on Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Suren Hovsepyan as the country's permanent representative in this structure. The Armenian Foreign Ministry is charged with informing WMO of the decision taken today.
WMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) whose members are 191 states. Organization serves as an authoritative source of information for the UN system on the state and behavior of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with land and oceans, the weather and climate it creates, and the final distribution of water resources. Established in 1950, WMO became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1951. The Organization's mandate includes meteorology (weather and climate), operational hydrology, and related geophysical sciences. Since its establishment, WMO has played a unique and influential role in promoting the security and well-being of humanity. It also strengthens the interaction between the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services of the Members of the Organization and promotes the application of meteorology in many fields.
