ArmInfo. Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture Gegham Gevorgyan on October 17.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Pashinyan, referring to the development priorities of the field, said that there are serious tasks in the agrosector - ideological, technical and purely working. "We are faced with the task of transforming the structure of the economy in such a way that Armenia, tentatively speaking, turns from an agrarian country into an industrial one, but this in no way means that we will underestimate the field," he said. On the contrary, as Pashinyan pointed out, the agrosector has been and remains one of the most important areas in all countries of the world, and Armenia has the task to increase the productivity of the agricultural sector, relevant infrastructures, the level of availability of irrigation systems, open new markets, create a new business culture in the field. Nikol Pashinyan also touched upon his visit to the Ararat region of the republic. "The processing industry has reached the point where there is a threat that the agrosphere can no longer provide the necessary raw materials," he noted, reiterating that government policy in Armenia should encourage work, not poverty. As Pashinyan pointed out, taking into account the fact that agricultural products are imported to Armenia in large volumes, local producers need to expand their own production in order to meet the demand of processing companies.
To note, Gegham Gevorgyan early occupied the post of head of Agriculture Development Fund.
