Mills: Despite a lot of speculations, the US Embassy in Armenia did  not forecast the processes in the country in April-May this year

There were many speculations in social networks, however, neither I nor the US Embassy in Armenia forecasted the processes in Armenia in April-May  of the current year, US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills stated in  his speech to the members of the Armenian-American Chamber of  Commerce on October 9.

According to him, when he talked with people in Armenia, in various  regions of the country, he saw how day by day discontent in the  society with the actions of the authorities was increasing. People  were convinced that the government does not reflect the will of the  people, allows corruption to flourish, which threatens democracy.

The Ambassador said that the society's demand for change was felt,  literally it was in the air. ''We believed that My Step movement  could become a driving force of change in the country. Washington  understood that Armenia is on the path of change. And the embassy  helped all those Armenians, government representatives, who wanted to  form a fair and equal society in Armenia. I can't tell the dates, but  the changes will occur in Armenia, as the sprouts have already grown  and now there is Armenia, which has given hope to many Armenians,  "the Ambassador said. At the same time, he added that by helping the  voices that have fought against corruption in recent decades, the US  wanted to see a more just Armenia, and the American diplomatic  mission helped ''these sprouts to grow."

"Those who say that it was a conspiracy or an external influence are  mistaken. They deny the free will of the Armenian people, deny the  fact that the Armenian people themselves want to pave their way of  development, to bring about change," the diplomat said.

At the same time, Mills stressed that the Armenian government turned  to the United States for help in combating corruption, conduct  investigations and a number of other issues. "We want to help Armenia  ensure sustainable, long-term, institutional changes in the field of  justice, in law enforcement structures, which will allow us to build  the kind of Armenia we want to see. Armenia, where there is no  corruption that impedes economic and political development," the  diplomat said.
