ArmInfo. The dissolution of the National Assembly through constitutional changes requires more time, said the deputy chairman of the Armenian National Congress Party (ANC) Levon Zurabyan.
"This is a much longer process, because amendments to the Constitution should be prepared, submitted to parliament, discussed. There may be problems related to the Venice Commission, which can express its opinion on this issue," said the former deputy in an interview with Radio Azatutyun.
Zurabyan noted that a relatively effective version of the dissolution of parliament is the procedure stipulated by the current Constitution. The representative of the ANC is convinced that in this case the so- called counter-revolution theoretically has the opportunity to nominate another candidate and prevent Pashinyan, but this, according to Zurabyan, is unlikely. "As time now plays a very important role, the first option is effective," the ANC deputy chairman said.
According to the current Constitution, the Prime Minister must resign in order to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections, and then if the new Prime Minister is not elected, the National Assembly will be dissolved within two weeks. Nikol Pashinyan said about a month ago that in this case there is a risk of nominating another candidate for the post of prime minister. And for the dissolution of the parliament and the holding of early elections without the resignation of the Prime Minister, it is necessary that the current Constitution be amended. The government has already begun work on constitutional changes, at which stage they are, not yet reported.
