ArmInfo. Azerbaijan does not meet the criteria of the statutory documents of the CSTO and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and therefore there can be no question of giving it an observer status in these structures. Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tigran Balayan said this on September 26, referring to whether it is possible that in the foreseeable future Azerbaijan will become an observer in the CSTO and the EEU, especially considering that it has already received observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Balayan recalled that both Azerbaijan and Armenia have the status of a partner for dialogue in the SCO. He also added that he needs to clarify whether Armenia has applied for observer status in the SCO. "Regarding the possible provision of observer status to Azerbaijan in the Collective Security Treaty Organization or the EEU, I would like to emphasize that at the moment this is simply impossible, since Baku does not meet the criteria established by the statutory documents of these organizations, therefore, there have been no discussions on this issue," - the Spokesman of the Armenian Foreign Ministry stressed. At the same time, he recalled that all decisions in these organizations are taken on the basis of consensus.
