ArmInfo. Nagorno-Karabakh can not be part of Azerbaijan, unless someone wants to allow a new genocide of the Armenian people to occur, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. As the Armenian PM stressed the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains priority for Armenian foreign policy.
'The status and security of the Artsakh Republic will be Armenia's exclusive priority in the negotiation process. Any attempt to resolve the conflict by military means poses a direct threat to the security of the region, democracy and human rights," Pashinyan said. According to him, Armenia will continue constructive participation in the peace process on the settlement of the conflict in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is granted the only recognized international mandate for the settlement of the conflict.
As the head of the Armenian government pointed out, the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains the priority of Armenia's foreign policy. "The status and security of the Republic of Artsakh is an absolute priority of the Republic of Armenia in the negotiation process. Any attempt to resolve the conflict through military means represents a direct threat to the regional security, democracy and human rights,'' Pashinyan said. According to him Armenia will continue its constructive participation in the peaceful resolution of the conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group format, which has the only internationally recognized mandate to settle the conflict. According to Pashinyan, if Azerbaijan is truly committed to the peace process it should start negotiating with the main side of this conflict - Nagorno-Karabakh. "Azerbaijan declares on every occasion that Karabakh should be a part of its territory''.
At the same time, it announces that it will not negotiate with Nagorno Karabakh. The question is how Azerbaijan can make a claim over Nagorno-Karabakh without even speaking to it? It is possible only if Azerbaijani government is interested in the territory and not the people. Thus, it becomes obvious that Baku intends to cleanse Karabakh from Armenians, like they did in Nakhijevan. This gives Nagorno-Karabakh the right to state, that to be a part of Azerbaijan for Karabakh means to be totally exterminated. Hence Karabakh must not be a part of Azerbaijan, unless someone wants to allow a new genocide of Armenian people."Pashinyan stressed.
As the Armenian Premier pointed out, the conflict can and should be settled only through mutual compromises by both sides, in an environment conducive to peace and not war
