ArmInfo.The Office of the Ombudsman of Armenia assessed the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan, held on September 23.

The Office of the Human Rights Defender was reminded that one of the  key functions of the Ombudsman is to guarantee the implementation of  the electoral right, thanks to which democratic institutions and a  system of government are being formed in the country. "The more free  and unhindered the opportunities for the implementation of the  electoral law, the more people's confidence in the newly formed  structure, formed through free expression of will." The Ombudsman's office stated that the vote passed in a calm and  peaceful atmosphere, without tension, which allowed citizens to  freely implement the electoral law, thereby forming the basis for the  governance of Yerevan as a unified community.

In the office of the human rights defender, they stressed that during  the whole process they effectively interacted with the CEC of Armenia  and law enforcers, special attention was paid to the work of  journalists and observers. "Observations show that unhindered  activity of observers and journalists was ensured (several incidents  were recorded.) In the office of the Ombudsman, there were no cases  of involvement of schools and kindergartens in political processes,  and there were no cases of threats against voters or other kinds of  pressure But, unfortunately, the growth of intolerance, insults, and  even threats, which were especially evident in social networks, was  registered by fake users. This led to tension and division of society  into groups, which should be eradicated, as they negatively affect  the atmosphere of solidarity in the country and have a negative  impact on the whole system of human rights protection. The human  rights defender does everything in his power to eliminate these  negative since solidarity and tolerance are an indispensable  guarantee for the full realization of the right to vote, "the  Ombudsman's office said in a statement, while omissions in the course  of elections are indicated in the inadequate enforcement of the right  of persons with disabilities.
