ArmInfo.Ex-Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan was interrogated in the criminal case on abuses in the "Yerevan" foundation. On September 20, the director of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia, Artur Vanetsyan, told journalists.
According to Vanetsyan, Margaryan was summoned for interrogation as a witness. As the head of the National Security Service pointed out, the ex-mayor admitted that there were "some violations."
In addition, according to the head of the National Security Service, as a result of the investigation, the sum of 1 billion 800 million drams should be returned to the state budget, and the head of the Foundation (Ashot Khazaryan, editor) has already given his consent.
Recall that in the case of abuses in the "Yerevan" fund, whose chairman was ex-mayor Taron Margaryan, on June 14, the deputy head of the Davitashen administrative district Khachatur Karapetyan and the fund manager Ashot Khazaryan were detained. However, the court of first instance decided to release Karapetyan and Khazarian from custody.
The day before, the NSS press center reported that the citizens of V.G. and A.Kh. there was a signal that officials of the mayor's office for granting permission to build and formalize property rights, in addition to the payments established by law, required to transfer large sums to the accounts of the "Yerevan" fund. During the preparation of the materials it was found out that under this pretext, a part of the money received by hand was not paid to the fund's account, but was appropriated. On the basis of reports of the crime, a criminal case was instituted in accordance with Part 2 of Article 308 (abuse of official powers, which resulted in grave consequences by negligence) and Article 178, part 1 (fraud committed through the use of official position). On August 9, Arthur Vanetsyan stated in an interview with journalists that according to strictly preliminary calculations, the embezzlement in the "Yerevan" fund is estimated at 1 billion 807 million drams. On September 4, he reported that former Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan would be questioned as a witness in the case of abuses in the Yerevan Foundation.
