ArmInfo. Results of elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan may become a surprise for many. Raffi Hovhannisyan, candidate for mayor from the Heritage party, stated this at a press conference on September 20.
According to him, it is possible that several political forces will take place in the Council of Elders of Yerevan. "If we want to generalize the results of the revolution, then in the Council of Elders we should have 2-3 political forces that are connected with each other," the politician noted.
Touching upon the aggravated situation in the pre-election period, Hovhannisyan recalled that it was a question of elections to Yerevan City Hall, and not about the struggle for power in the country. "It will be possible to talk about meaningful and equal elections only after 4-5 years, when the political situation in Armenia is stabilizing," the candidate for mayor from the Heritage party concluded.
In his turn, the chairman of the board of the Heritage party Armen Martirosyan stated that party representatives support the current authorities, as well as holding early elections to the National Assembly.
Martirosyan said that if the early parliamentary elections are not held, then the political and legislative crisis will continue in Armenia. According to the politician, regardless of how much political forces are ready for the elections, they must take place. Martirosyan also recalled what risks a one-party system has in itself, based on the example of the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan. "In 1991, all unanimously voted for Levon Ter-Petrosyan, and we all remember that the Armenian national movement was created in 1998. We all remember what this led to, I hope that this time we will be able to avoid such a development of events" , concluded Martirosyan
