Armenia attaches great importance to relations with Georgia, based on centuries-old mutual trust and mutual understanding, and is committed to taking practical steps to raise them to a qualitatively new level, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan stated this during his meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry told ArmInfo.
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as the implementation of the agreements reached at the level of the heads of state. In this regard, the importance of regular consultations between the departments of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries was stressed. The ministers discussed in detail the prospects for strengthening cooperation in a multilateral format.
The two sides expressed their mutual satisfaction with the high level of trade and economic relations, while expressing the conviction that for the dynamic development of these contacts joint efforts must be made to fulfill the existing great potential.
In order to further deepen bilateral relations, the importance of activating the activities of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation and the Armenian-Georgian working group on trade and economy was stressed.
Touching upon the internal political processes in Armenia, Mnatsakanyan noted that on the basis of the people's mandate, the new government is committed to continuing the process of reforms aimed at strengthening justice, the rule of law, equal opportunities in the social and economic fields, and fighting corruption. At the same time, the Armenian Foreign Minister added that all this can contribute to further strengthening of relations between the two neighbors.
Mnatsakanyan also presented the approaches and priorities of the Armenian side on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In this context, the sides agreed that conflicts should be settled peacefully and within existing international formats.
