ArmInfo. In Armenia, mitigation of punishment for a wanted person can be carried out without his participation. Amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure were made at the RA National Assembly meeting on September 11 in the second and final reading.
Presenting the draft amendments, RA First Deputy Minister of Justice Artur Hovhannisyan noted that the Criminal Procedure Code in its present form allows changing the accusation, either to toughen or mitigate it. However, this does not mean that charges can be pressed against person so that to change it later. "There are cases when the accused is hiding, the place of his stay is unknown, and it is impossible to press charges against him/her." The code does not allow for the change of the charge. However, we offer to give this opportunity, and if the person is hiding from the investigation, the body that implements it can without him to soften the charge, "the deputy minister explained.
