ArmInfo. Former Defense Minister of Armenia, former Chief Military Inspector Mikael Harutyunyan and CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov do not have Russian citizenship, Head of the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia Sasun Khachatryan stated answering the question of ArmInfo, on August 16.
"Talks about their Russian citizenship are rumors, we made inquiries, according to available information, these are rumors," said Sasun Khachatryan.
To recall, two weeks earlier, the head of the SIS told ArmInfo that he does not have information whether former defense minister, chief military inspector Mikael Harutyunyan, who is on wanted list has Russian citizenship. At the same time, he assured that the information will be checked.
To recall, former Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan (wanted by Interpol) and CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov (who was released on bail) are accused of overthrowing the constitutional order in the criminal case on dispersal of mass protest rallies on March 1, 2008. Meanwhile, recently the media reported that Mikael Harutyunyan is not only in Russia, but also a Russian citizen.
Against this background, as noted, Harutyunyan's extradition is unlikely, since according to the Russian Criminal Code, extradition of a person for criminal prosecution is not allowed if the person against whom a request from a foreign state has entered is a citizen of the Russian Federation.
