ArmInfo. The Armenian Foreign Ministry does not have information about the intention of the CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov to obtain Russian citizenship, acting spokesperson of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan stated on August 14 during a briefing.
At the same time, she noted that, according to the Armenian legislation, citizens of other states do not have the right to hold high state posts.
Referring to the statements by the Presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan, made on August 12 in Aktau that the issue related to the CSTO Secretary General is problematic, Naghdalyan said in particular: " Replacing the candidacy of the incumbent CSTO secretary general from Armenia is a long process. Armenia aiming to differentiate the domestic process from the CSTO activities, and ensuring and guaranteeing the uninterrupted work of the Organization secretariat, initiated the process and made it public. As for the remaining issues they are subject to discussion at the CSTO at different levels, and the agreements reached should be approved by the CSTO Council. The results of the talks will be presented to the public," she noted.
Asked to clarify whether this issue will be included in the agenda of the upcoming CSTO summit scheduled for October-November this year, Naghdalyan stated that, even before the summit, there will be a serious process of discussions within the CSTO at different levels. "The agreements reached at the end of these discussions will be presented at the CSTO summit. These are the procedures, and we still have much to do before October, "she concluded.
