ArmInfo. The Head of the Special Investigation Service continues to insist on the need for the detention of Armenian President Robert Kocharyan. Sasun Khachatryan, the head of the investigative body, stated on 9 August.
According to him, the SIS has well-founded suspicions that, in case of being released, Kocharyan will try to obstruct the investigation and put pressure on the participants of the trial. While remaining under arrest Kocharyan has much less opportunities to do that.
At the same time, according to Khachatryan, speaking so, he in no way influences the court and its decision on changing the measure of restraint against Kocharyan. As the head of the SIS has pointed out, both the court and the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia are independent in their decisions.
Sasun Khachatryan does not agree with the statements about political bias and exercise of selective justice in Armenia. According to him, justice will overtake everyone, in particular, within the framework of the case on the events of the March 1. "Neither Serzh Sargsyan nor anyone else will stay on the sidelines. The preliminary investigation will decide who and in what status to call for interrogation, "he said. To note, at the moment the Court of Appeals in Yerevan is considering the motion of Robert Kocharyan's lawyers, accused of overthrowing the constitutional order, about changing the measure of restraint against him.
