ArmInfo. The draft agreement on a common (combined) communication system of the armed forces of the CIS countries will be submitted to the Council of Heads of Government, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee informed BE LTA.
A session of an expert group to negotiate the document concluded at the CIS headquarters in Minsk on 2 August. Taking part in the meeting were plenipotentiary representatives and experts from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as the Secretariat of the Council of Defense Ministers and the CIS Executive Committee. "The draft document elaborated by the General Staff of Russia's Armed Forces was harmonized taking into account remarks and proposals. The CIS Executive Committee will forward the session records to the CIS member states and the Secretariat of the Council of Defense Ministers where the draft document will be scrutinized at the national level," the press service informed.
The common communication system will be set up, built up and function in order to maintain the adequate level of control by means of effective use of the communication systems of national armed forces and government communication networks of the participating states. "The document sets out, among other things, the major tasks for the common communication system. They include provision of communication services and exchange of all types of information, support for the activities of the unified interaction systems in the military sphere of the CIS," the press service informed.
The draft agreement is expected to reconcile approaches to the development of the system and approaches to technical and organizational matters of military cooperation. It will also stimulate priority provision of national armed forces with up-to-date communication equipment, BELTA informs.
