A wide range of issues of the Armenian-Russian defense cooperation was discussed on July 20 during a meeting between Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan and Deputy Chief of the Southern Military District, General Vladimir Stekhov, as well as Colonel Vladimir Yelkanov, commander of the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia. The latter was accompanied by the commander of the joint group of forces (forces) of the Armed Forces of Armenia and Russia Tigran Parvanyan.
As the press service of the Defense Ministry told ArmInfo, the parties also discussed details of the incident that occurred earlier in the Panik village of Shirak region of Armenia. Stekhov expressed regret related to the incident, and assured that the command of the 102nd military base would henceforth be more cautious and consistent in such matters.
In turn, Tonoyan called on the Russian government to pay attention to the formation of relations with the population, especially during the activities on combat training and the activities of the 102nd Russian Military Base. He also stressed that on July 22 he personally will visit Panic and take part in measures to eliminate the consequences of the incident.
