ArmInfo. Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Araik Harutyunyan is a supporter of the current 12-year education system. He stated this on July 19 in a conversation with reporters.
According to Harutyunyan, a society that wants to return to a ten-year secondary education, as he pointed out, should have a new Minister of Education and Science. According to the minister, in two or three years he will be able to convince the part of the society that supports the 10-year system in the effectiveness of the 12-year education system. Speaking about the planned reforms in the sphere of secondary education, he stated that at this stage the goal of the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia is that the schools of the country work in one shift. This, among other things, will stop the complaints of the parents, who noted that because of the shift work of schools, it is difficult for them to organize their work schedule. The decision will also allow unloading a number of schools and stimulating competition among educational institutions.
In addition, according to Araik Harutyunyan, it is also planned to review the order of admission of children to school. That is, if today's legislation presupposes the right of the parent to choose the school for the child himself, in the future, it may be possible to introduce a norm providing for the first-time admission to the school for children at the place of residence.
