ArmInfo. The meeting of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, at which the new mayor of the city was to be elected, did not take place.
Representatives of the factions of the Republican Party and the "Elk" bloc did not attend the meeting, thus provoking the dissolution of the Council. And about Mayor Kamo Areyan stated that there were 5 members of the council at the meeting, there was no quorum and, consequently, the meeting did not take place.
He announced a break of 30 minutes, after which an attempt will again be made to hold a meeting if members of the Council of Elders are to meet. However, representatives of the RPA factions and Yelk said in advance that they will not participate in the meeting, since they do not intend to nominate candidates. At the moment, the only candidate is the leader of the Yerkir Tsirani faction Zaruhi Postanjyan, who is present at the meeting.
Outside, a small group of people are holding a rally in defense of Postanjyan. The leader of the "Elk" faction David Hazhakyan noted today that the option of speaking at the early elections of the Council of Elders of Yerevan with a single list is being discussed. It should be noted that on May 9 Taron Margaryan, Yerevan's mayor, announced his resignation.
