ArmInfo. The problem with congestion at the Upper Lars checkpoint was resolved and the situation tends to stabilize. The Deputy Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies Armen Pambukchyan reported on July 11. Presenting the current situation at the checkpoint, the deputy minister said that the queue on the Russian side stretched for 4 km, the throughput 4-5 hours.
"At the checkpoint there are about 60 trucks, about half of them are Armenian trucks loaded with grain, there are not a queue on the Georgian part of the route, about 22 cars are in the terminal, 10 of which are Armenian," he wrote.
In addition, the representative of the Armenian Ministry of Transport expressed special gratitude to the Georgian authorities for ensuring the extraordinary passage of trucks from Armenia that carry perishable food products. Thanks to this, as Pambukchyan pointed out, the agency did not receive a single signal about the spoiled cargo. Earlier, ArmInfo informed about the accumulation of cars on the Russian-Georgian border near Upper Lars. It was reported that kilometer traffic jams are waiting for those who decided to land by land to Armenia from Russia. As stated in the Armenian Ministry of Transport, the turn is due to the season of holidays and with the introduction of a new electronic booking system (electronic queue) at the Georgian customs. Meanwhile, Georgian bizzone.info reported that the restrictions arose because of the limit established by Russian customs officials who told Georgian colleagues that for them in the tourist season the priority is the maintenance of non-consignments. Meanwhile, the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Georgian Military Road is the only land road linking Armenia to the Russian Federation. The problem with low road capacity arises annually.
