ArmInfo. Armenian courts do not fully guarantee the protection of human rights. This was discussed at the meeting of Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan held the day before with the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Harutyunyan.
According to the RA Ombudsman's office, during the meeting, Arman Tatoyan stressed the need for the full-fledged application of the constitutional rights of citizens to human rights and fundamental freedoms in real life. The priority body in solving this problem should be the courts. Meanwhile, in this regard, the judicial system still has problems requiring urgent solutions. The complaints addressed to the Ombudsman testify to the need to restore the citizens' confidence in the judicial system. In specific cases, without interfering with the procedural activities of the courts, the activities of the Human Rights Defender show that the problem of protecting the rights of the individual is due precisely to insufficiently flexible judicial procedures.
In his turn, the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council stressed the importance of institutional reform of the judicial system in order to build trust in justice. Gagik Harutyunyan presented those initiatives and programs that are aimed at the effectiveness of human rights guarantees in the judicial system.
