The results of the implementation of the medium-term program to improve seismic safety were the subject of discussions held the day before between the chairman of the City Planning Committee of Armenia Avetik Eloyan and the head of the Armenian mission of the Asian Development Bank Gohar Musayelyan.
According to the press service of the Committee, during the meeting Gohar Musayelyan presented the Bank's approaches to further construction works aimed at improving the seismic safety of schools. The program is funded by ADB. The representative of the Bank also raised the issue of the need to tighten seismic norms. The parties discussed the criteria for choosing schools in various communities of the republic.
The Asian Development Bank allocated $ 85.5 million for the implementation of the medium-term program for strengthening the seismic safety of Armenian schools in 2015. The program is implemented in the direction of increasing the seismic resistance of school buildings, increasing the capacity for training and responding to a possible disaster. Work is also underway to assess and manage risks. Payments for loan servicing will be carried out every six months. The interest rate is 2% per annum, the maturity is 25 years, of which 5 years is a grace period. In the period from 2015 to 2030, within the framework of the ADB credit program, 370 schools meeting the standards of seismic-sustainable development will appear in Armenia. The total cost of this ADB program is $ 617 million.
