Turkish historian: Only apologies if Turkey recognizes the Armenian  Genocide will not be enough

According to him, of course, Turkey must compensate for the  damage, but to what extent, it was difficult to say.

"I am deeply convinced that no amount will be able to compensate for  the moral damage that has been inflicted, but I believe that the  societies of the two countries should sit down at the negotiating  table and determine what amount will satisfy the Armenian side."  Although I believe that we have gone too far ahead, until we do not  have to hope for such progress, "the historian said. However, he  added, it is not necessary to talk about changing the borders, Turkey  can symbolically allow Armenians to use the port of Trabzon or pass  the mountain to Ararat, perform some symbolic step of goodwill.

At the same time, he stressed that Turkey today has a lot of  problems, including the process of democratization, the adoption of  its own history. At the same time, Akcam expressed the hope that  young Turkish historians will be able to ensure that Turkey  recognizes the Armenian Genocide by its efforts.
