ArmInfo. The Republican Party of Armenia issued a statement on the case of the MP from the RPA, the head of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, General Manvel Grigoryan.
In particular, the RPA statement reads: "We learned with deep pain and indignation the video published by the National Security Service of Armenia in the Manvel Grigoryan case. It's hard to even believe in the reality of all this. We are surprised and indignant that in our reality there is such a thing in general, regardless of who committed these acts, especially if it is a general who actively participated in the Karabakh war. This is unacceptable and disgusting."
At the same time, the RPA stresses that it adheres to the principle of presumption of innocence. "But if Grigorian's guilt is proven, he must be held accountable in accordance with the strictness of the law." Anyone who violates the law, regardless of his status, merit, political or party affiliation, must be held accountable for his actions. This is not ordinary words or statements, this is a principled position, especially against the background of the fact that the materials presented besides the legal aspect have an emphasized moral and moral component. This is a slap in the moral and moral values of our people and a high idea of protection s country," the authors conclude the statement.
It should be noted that immediately after Grigoryan's arrest, when it became known that he was charged with the acquisition and storage of weapons and ammunition, the RPA issued a statement stressing that the actions of the National Security Service are another manifestation of the government's repression with political overtones. The statement also stressed that Grigoryan's detention was illegal, since a deputy can only be exposed to a drive if caught red handed.
At present, the Prosecutor General's Office initiated the process of depriving Grigoryan of immunity and commencing criminal prosecution against him. To this end, she invited the government to convene an extraordinary session of the parliament. The position of the RPA faction on this issue is not yet known. However, its spokesman, Vice Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, said that an objective investigation can be conducted in the case of other measures of restraint, say, a written undertaking not to leave the country, taking into account the state of health of the defendant.
Grigoryan was arrested on June 16 on charges of acquiring and storing weapons and ammunition, later it turned out that he was also charged with the theft of provisions and equipment from the army. After finding out the new circumstances Grigoryan's son, Mayor of Echmiadzin Karen Grigoryan resigned, and his lawyer Grant Ananyan refused to defend.
All these events followed protests in Echmiadzin against the Grigorians, organized by criminal authority Don Pipo (Arthur Asatryan) and ex-MP, ex-Republican, also implicated in criminal histories Akop Hakobyan. In this regard, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that he would not allow various criminal elements to realize their goals under the guise of a "velvet revolution".
