ArmInfo. After the facts published by the National Security Service, the case of the MP from the Republican Party faction, the head of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, General Manvel Grigoryan can only be considered in the legal field. The RPA press secretary, vice speaker of the parliament Eduard Sharmazanov stated in a conversation with ArmInfo correspondent.
He assured that he was shocked, disappointed, indignant and surprised with what he saw in the video of the National Security Service during the search of the general's house: "For me it was a surprise I have no words, I think no normal person can remain indifferent. If the investigation proves Grigoryan's guilt, he must be held accountable for all the severity of the law, in such matters no merit, no posts, no political orientation are important, everyone is equal before the law," Sharmazanov said. The vice-speaker stressed that in case of proof of guilt, all possible participants of this crime should be held responsible, if any.
Sharmazanov also said that he did not discuss the situation with his fellow party members, including the leader of the RPA, the third president, Serzh Sargsyan.
As for his position regarding the deprivation of Grigoryan's immunity and his arrest during the investigation, Sharmazanov noted that an objective investigation can be conducted in the case of other procedural actions, for example, a written undertaking not to leave due to the presence of health problems. At the same time, he stressed that the RPA faction has not yet decided on this issue. Sharmazanov also noted that the RPA faction will make a statement about the recent events in the near future, despite the fact that Manvel Grigoryan is not a member of the party, but he is part of the faction.
Immediately after Grigoryan's arrest, when it became known that he was charged with the acquisition and storage of weapons and ammunition, the RPA issued a statement stressing that the actions of the National Security Council are another manifestation of the government's repression with political overtones. The statement also stressed that Grigoryan's detention was illegal, since a deputy can only be exposed to a drive if caught red handed.
Grigoryan was arrested on June 16 on charges of acquiring and storing weapons and ammunition, later it turned out that he was also charged with the theft of provisions and equipment from the army. After finding out the new circumstances Grigoryan's son, Mayor of Echmiadzin Karen Grigoryan resigned, and his lawyer Grant Ananyan refused to defend.
