ArmInfo. Head of the Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the Armenian Parliament, Republican Gevorg Kostanyan announced the resignation of the representative of Armenia to the European Court of Human Rights.
Kostanyan explained his decision by changing the political situation in Armenia and the arrival of new authorities. At the same time, the deputy assured that he and his team over the years have done everything possible to properly represent Armenia's interests in the structure. "I am confident that the new team will work with no less devotion, and will do everything to further enhance the level of human rights protection in Armenia," Kostanyan said in a statement.
The statement, in particular, notes that in the period from 2002 to 2017, the number of complaints from Armenia to the ECHR was 3,416. Of these, 1,518 were rejected by the court. In 2018, the ECtHR passed 93 verdicts against Armenia, 4 of them were satisfied, 1 was reviewed, 84 violations were registered, and 4 such violations were not identified. According to these verdicts the plaintiffs demanded compensation in the amount of 23 million euros, claims were satisfied only for the amount of 1,158,290 euros.
