ArmInfo.Chairman of the National Assembly Ara Babloyan on June 12 received US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Richard Mills.
According to the press service of the Parliament, Babloyan assessed the Armenian-American cooperation as effective. The Chairman of the Parliament in the expansion of bilateral relations considered important mutual visits and strengthening of ties between parliamentarians.
The head of the legislative branch, referring to the internal political developments in Armenia, stressed: "The world has witnessed that Armenia is a democratic country committed to the proclaimed principles and ideas, a clear proof of that is the settlement of problems by peaceful and constitutional way."
Touching upon the holding of extraordinary parliamentary elections, Babloyan noted: "It is necessary to develop and implement such mechanisms jointly by the joint forces so that the elections held correspond to democratic standards and were accepted by the society." In his turn, Richard Mills highly appreciated the role of the Chairman of the National Assembly Ara Babloyan in the effective organization of parliamentary work in the transitional period for Armenia.
The Ambassador stressed the importance of the resolution of internal political processes in Armenia by the force of law, in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
"Under the new Constitution of Armenia, the National Assembly continues to play an important role, and in this important period for the history of Armenia, I am ready to work with you and with other leaders," said Richard Mills.
The interlocutors turned to the reforms of the Electoral Code, the steps taken to combat corruption, the prospects for cooperation.
