ArmInfo. On June 8, the Armenian government appointed the heads of the Syunik and Armavir districts at a regular meeting on June 8. Thus, Armenia changed all governors, except for the head of the Armenian capital.
The latter has the status of a city-region, with the difference that the head of the regional administration- mayor is elected by the Council of Elders. As the new head of Syunik Karen Hambardzumyan (from the Prosperous Armenia Party) stated in a conversation with journalists, all issues in the region will be resolved, and, first of all, issues aimed at increasing the sense of dignity of Syunik residents.
The new head of the region does not think that the former leaders of Syunik will retain their influence in the region. As Hambardzumyan said, he plans to eradicate possible criminal elements with the help of law enforcement agencies in the region. "Thanks to the velvet revolution, we hope to solve all the pressing problems of the region," he said.
To note, new governor of Armavir region became Gagik Miridjanyan, a representative of ARFD.
