ArmInfo. What happened in recent weeks in Armenia has become an ideological revolution. Piotr Switalsky, head of the EU delegation in Armenia, expressed such an opinion in an interview with Radio Azatutyun.
According to him, it is too early to assess the events, but what happened in Armenia has deep roots, the authorities came to power new faces, but so far it's not about changing political and social policies, but rather the thinking of people, what they think about themselves. "People came to the conclusion that it's time to break free from the past. I think that this deep and long. And it is important to young people's participation in these processes. Of course, the authorities and the society at present many challenges, how to maintain these positive changes, the energy emitted from people, "the ambassador said.
At the same time, he is convinced that from the political point of view, what happened in Armenia is peculiar, as the political crisis began in the country. "And this crisis was resolved peacefully, and within the framework of the Constitution. As for the outside world, many watched as the representatives of different parts of society and political forces worked in this direction. This was a serious signal to the outside world, from the point of view that in Armenia has matured civil society, "the diplomat said. At the same time, he added that what happened in Armenia became a positive brand, which should be preserved.
Switalsky also said that what happened in Armenia did not become a surprise for him, as he always believed in the strength of the Armenian people. Speaking about the character of the shares, he noted that as a diplomat he wished that Armenia avoided negative examples of protest actions taking place in other countries. "In fact, Armenians could do this by placing national interests above party and personal interests, I always believed that this is possible, since Armenia stands out precisely for this," the Ambassador said.
He also agreed that a large wave of discontent has accumulated in the Armenian society, conditioned by the level of the country's economic development, high unemployment and poverty, and a number of other problems. Switalsky also believes that what happened in the country was difficult to predict by anyone.
Speaking about the possibility of holding early elections in Armenia this autumn, Switalsky stressed that the EU is ready to assist the authorities in this matter, despite the complexity of this task. "The international community is ready to help Armenia organize the elections, as it did during the upcoming elections, it is good that some work has already been done in this direction, in particular, it is about identity, the EU is ready to assist," he said.
