According to the press service of the Armenian President, during the meeting, Armen Sarkissian expressed gratitude to President Margvelashvili for the invitation to take part in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Georgian statehood, and showed a warm attitude. He noted that in a few days Armenia will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the First Republic. According to the RA President, for the two peoples, the basis for these historic jubilee events is the idea of freedom, which continues to exist today. Armen Sarkissian assessed the Armenian-Georgian relations as good neighborly and partner, which continue to develop dynamically in an atmosphere of mutual trust. "Active interstate dialogue, historically based on the traditional friendship and mutual understanding of our peoples, create serious prerequisites for the designation of all new areas of partnership, "said Armen Sarkissian.
The two heads of state also touched upon the recent changes in Armenia and prospects for the development of the Armenian-Georgian relations. They expressed confidence that the parties through joint efforts are in a position not only to preserve the existing, but also to give new impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation, raising it to a qualitatively new level.
During a warm and direct conversation, Armen Sarkissian invited his Georgian counterpart to visit Armenia.
During the working visit to Tbilisi, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian met with former Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili. The meeting, according to Georgian media, was of a private nature. Armen Sarkissian and Bidzina Ivanishvili are connected by long-term friendly relations.
