ArmInfo.Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with the delegation of co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, headed by Giuseppe Galatti. This was reported by the press service of the government.
During the meeting, Pashinyan noted that from the point of view of strengthening democracy in Armenia, monitoring activity of the PACE is of great importance, while the prime minister stressed the importance of Armenia's cooperation with the EU. He added that the recent changes in Armenia took place due to the will of the people and carried exclusively peaceful character. "This means that democracy in Armenia is already a reality and is at a high level. Today, our government is determined to make this permanent. Early parliamentary elections are of paramount importance for us, but for this it is necessary to provide appropriate legislative and technical conditions, "he said, noting that thanks to this, the results of the elections will really reflect the will of the people.
At the same time, Pashinyan noted the importance of the steps aimed at strengthening the core values of the Council of Europe in Armenia, while the prime minister expressed his concern over the attempts of some people to use PACE as a platform for the Karabakh conflict. In this vein, Pashinyan stressed that there is one platform for the settlement and negotiation of the Karabakh issue - this is the format of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
"I am sure that the changes in Armenia will give a new impetus to the development and strengthening of democracy in the country," the Armenian Prime Minister stated.
According to the source, during the meeting the parties also touched upon a number of issues concerning the priorities of the government, the fight against corruption and monopolies, the prospects for political development.
