ArmInfo. "I did not depend, I do not depend, and while I work I will not depend on any political forces." The Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan said on May 15 at a meeting of the State and Legal Affairs Committee.
Touching upon the change of government and its forthcoming work with the new government, Davtyan said: "Independent bodies, including the prosecutor's office, must first of all be independent of the executive power. The executive branch in the country has changed, and if it automatically leads to a change in the leaders of independent bodies, I think, that the development of legal thought, which is included in the constitution of advanced countries, is just a myth."
Answering a question about why the deputies Nikol Pashinyan, Sasun Mikaelyan and Ararat Mirzoyan were arrested immediately after the meeting between Pashinyan and Serge Sargsyan, the prosecutor replied:
Commenting on the fact that yesterday the chief of police Valery Osipyan stated that these protest actions were not illegal, Davtyan stated that he does not agree with this statement. "The criminal proceedings are initiated at least 3 days in advance of the protest rallies. The law on holding rallies says that if these rallies restrict the rights and freedoms of others, they are not legal," Davtyan said.
When asked why the detained deputies were released, Davtyan stated: "We can not remain indifferent to the situation in Armenia."
