ArmInfo. "Today, on May 1, in the National Assembly of Armenia, I have the honor to present the leader of the national awakening, the candidate nominated by the Ekl parliamentary faction for the post of Prime Minister - Nikol Pashinyan," Elk parliamentary faction member Ararat Mirzoyan stated. This nomination, as Mirzoyan recalled, was supported by three parliamentary forces, and the ruling RPA, at least, stated that it would not hinder his election.
According to Mirzoyan, at this stage the Armenian people are going through one of the key moments of their history, when all the people decided to open "a new and glorious page in their history."
Presenting the biography of Nikol Pashinyan, he again reminded that in 1995 the candidate for premieres was expelled from the university for political reasons. For the same reasons, in 1999, the newspaper that he published was closed down, and in August of the same year he was sentenced to a year for a court decision. Later the sentence was delayed. In 2008, after the events of March 1, was on the wanted list, because of which 1,4 years remained in hiding. In July he voluntarily appeared in the Prosecutor General's Office, where he was detained, and in 2010 was sentenced to 7 years (he was under arrest for 1.1 years). In 2012 he was elected to the National Assembly from the ANC, and in 2017 - from the block "Elk". He is married and has 4 children.
As Ararat Mirzoyan noted in his speech, the main tasks of the interim government of Nikol Pashinyan, first of all, will be to ensure national unity. Turning to past problems, the new government will not have the goal of hindering the unity of the people, but, on the contrary, by joint efforts to find ways to solve them. Secondly, Nikol Pashinyan aims to ensure the normal course of the country's activities - from proper protection of borders and ensuring the stability of the financial system, until the current tasks are resolved. Priority will be given to socio-economic planning. Further, according to the deputy, Pashinyan will start reforms in the sphere of the suffrage. The cornerstone of the new - provisional government will be holding extraordinary early parliamentary elections. "I call on all to rise above their narrow-group and personal interests, help us to build a new country jointly, and make the best use of the historic opportunity that has been given to us today," concluded Ararat Mirzoyan.
