ArmInfo.Yerevan State University (YSU) made a statement on the diploma of the leader of the protest movement My Step, the deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
"Responding to the latest publications in the press, as well as to the collection of signatures organized by our students, Yerevan State University, having studied the personal case of Nikol Pashinyan, expresses readiness, in case of Mr. Pashinian's consent, to apply to the Ministry of Education and Science for the restoration process and diploma, according to the procedure, "- said in a statement posted on the university's Facebook page.
At the same time, the YSU is concerned that a student with excellent academic performance was expelled from the university in the final year. As previously reported by Nikol Pashinyan, he entered the Yerevan State University (YSU) in 1991, in 1995, two days before the final exams, he was expelled from the University by decision of the administration. "The decision was made for political reasons and was connected with my journalistic activities.I was asked to write a statement of repentance and on the spot to recover, but of course I refused," - he wrote on his Facebook page the day before. In addition, as Pashinyan noted, during the training, he passed all the exams, without exception, "perfectly well".
Yesterday, speaking to the gathered at the central building of YSU, activist of the movement David Petrosyan noted that it is necessary to depoliticize the activity of universities. "There should not be a political asset in the management of higher education institutions, which negatively affects the overall quality of education," he said.
