ArmInfo. The office of the Ombudsman of Armenia appealed to the public to stop immediately speeches with words of hatred and irreconcilability in social networks.
Particular concern of the office is the division of different layers of society and the tendency to confront. In particular, the opinions of the opposition, according to the studies conducted, are not completely opposed, and the position of the other party often contributes to humiliating the dignity of a person, including the propagation of hatred, and in some cases even inciting hatred against specific individuals.
These factors contribute to increase tension in society. In any case, from the point of view of protecting human rights, the office believes, it is important to fully protect the dignity of the person and the personal life of citizens. In particular, we are talking about the personal data of the deputies of the National Assembly, including the group publication of personal telephone numbers. Moreover, in social networks these numbers are not only published, but also ridiculed with insults and hate words, which can create a dangerous precedent of psychological abuse through the undesirable dissemination of personal data of public figures.
In this difficult situation, the role of the media is crucial. Therefore, the Human Rights Defender urges all media to immediately remove any comments that promote intolerance or hatred, or calls for violence, regardless of whether they are made by a false or an actual user. "We also call for more attention to verifying the news, as well as choosing the name," the office of the Human Rights Defender says.
