The new government of Armenia will continue the policy of the previous government aimed at implementing reforms, ensuring long-term sustainable growth and improving the welfare of the population. This was announced on April 17 from the rostrum of the parliament by the candidate for prime ministers of RA, the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan.
According to him, an important place will be given to such areas as light and food industry, information technologies, pharmaceuticals, other sectors of the economy. Agriculture has a huge potential, according to Serzh Sargsyan. "The achievements that we have witnessed in recent years are only a small part of the agricultural sector, I believe that in 5-7 years we will witness rapid development of agricultural production," said Serzh Sargsyan.
In the development of the economy, a great place will be given to strengthening cooperation with international associations and individual states. In particular, according to Sargsyan, cooperation with the strategic partner - the Russian Federation and the CSTO, with Iran, the European Union, the United States - will continue. The candidate for Prime Ministers reminded that starting from July this year the provisions of the Agreement with the EU "On a Comprehensive and Expanded Partnership" will begin to apply, which will further increase the volume of trade. At present, Serzh Sargsyan continued, 1/3 of the total trade turnover of Armenia falls on the Russian Federation and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, as much - on the countries of the European Union, and another 1/3 on other states. In other words, continued Serzh Sargsyan, Armenia's economy is sufficiently diversified, and the new government will continue this policy. The use of trade regimes allowed to increase the trade turnover of Armenia by 37%. The task is set in the next 2-3 years to bring this figure to 40%.
The candidate for prime ministers noted that since 2007 to date, Armenia's GDP has grown 2.1 times. According to him, if in early 2007 Armenia's GDP was 2.3 trillion drams, by January 2018 this index rose to 5.5 trillion drams. Deposits of individuals in commercial banks of the country over the same period of time from 143.6 billion drams rose to 1.5 trillion drams. "Almost 1 million people have deposits in the country's commercial banks," said Serzh Sargsyan. He cited statistics on car imports. If in 2007 333 thousand cars were registered in Armenia, then in January of this year. this figure rose to 616 thousand units. Only in the first quarter of 2018, the import of cars to Armenia increased three-fold, which, according to Serzh Sargsyan, is a clear confirmation of the growth of the well-being of the people.
However, as the candidate for prime ministers noted, the main directions of the government's activities for the coming years will be are fixed in the new program, which will be submitted to the parliament for approval.
